The National Council of Notaries was founded in Italy in 1949. The Latin-type notary-public figure is now present in 91 countries around the world. It is the political representative body of the category and consists of twenty notaries, directly elected\u2014with a limit of two consecutive terms\u2014by all practising notaries in elections held every three years.<\/p>\n
The tasks of the National Council of Notaries are set out in the law as follows: to provide opinions to the Ministry of Justice, if requested, on provisions to be issued concerning the notary system and on matters that concern the profession; to submit proposals that it deems appropriate in notary matters; to collect and coordinate the proposals of the Notary Councils and notaries; to take study initiatives that concern the profession; to safeguard the interests of the profession; to draw up principles of professional ethics.<\/p>\n
