Connact Mobility, in cooperation with the Italian offices of the European Parliament and Commission, promotes high-level debate on the future of Italian and European transport and on policies to ensure the economic, social and environmental sustainability of the sector.

 

The debate had different focuses, on the one hand aimed at highlighting the role of the Italian port system in contributing to the sustainability of maritime transport, and on the other focused on the development of intermodality and European transport networks, also analysing the contribution of the EU cohesion policies to achieve the necessary investments in this area.

Carlo Corazza
Director of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Italy

A lawyer since 1993, he has been a European civil servant since 1994: member of European Commissioner Emma Bonino's cabinet (1995-1999); responsible for enlargement negotiations between 2000 and 2003; spokesperson for the European Commission Representation in Italy between 2003 and 2008 and then director of the Milan office until 2011; spokesperson for Antonio Tajani during his terms as Vice-President of the EU Commission and President of the European Parliament; and then took up his current post as head of the European Parliament Liaison Office in Italy.

Pierpaolo Settembri is an EU official since 2007, currently working as Deputy Head of Cabinet for the European Commissioner in charge of Sustainable Transport and Tourism.  He is fluent in Italian, English, French and Spanish.


In the EU Commission, he worked in the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport as Head of Unit for Coordination and Planning in and, previously, as Assistant to the Director-General. He also worked as a coordinator for G7/G20 matters and external policies in the Secretariat-General of the Commission and, previously, in the General Secretariat of the Council, dealing with development cooperation and international trade. Prior to joining the EU institutions, he has been a Fulbright Scholar and Global Emile Noël Fellow at New York University, a researcher at the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) in Maastricht, a research fellow at LUISS “Guido Carli” in Rome and a teaching assistant at the College of Europe in Bruges.
